Thoughts on the Election

Well, the voting is over and the country has spoken. Obama will be our president in January. Supporting his plans will be a democrat Congress, a state department which has been just waiting for this moment, a judiciary already planted, ready to affirm his executive decisions and those of the much more liberal Congress. Liberalism will have been given pretty much a free hand in our government. They have two years until the next congresional election and four until the people get to reconsider what we have done as a free people to ourselves.

As a full-fledged, card-carrying member of the "Christian Right," I have been praying for our country all along, but especially during this stressful election cycle which has been so full of lies and deceit that one even wonders if the truth mattered at all this year. But a new day has dawned for all of us, and with it some hope coming from some strange corners.

Many, many people who voted for Obama were voting to bury our past's evil deeds against the black race, and I do not condemn them. In fact, I know God can see intent and bless it where it was not evil. I hope God will use this intent to unify us better, although preliminary indications seem to be that race will be a bigger subject than ever. But perhaps it can be a step forward in our racial healing.

When times worsen, more people turn to their Savior, and the faithful may become more earnest. May we as a nation turn to God in a more serious way, and become a whole new people belonging to Christ.

I hope we will all have good manners in the upcoming days. I know President Bush will remember his, leaving the White House nice and clean, with a basket of fruit for the Obama family and perhaps a doggie cookie for the next first pup, whoever that will be. Obama will have the benefit of good briefings and the tools of the presidency will be handed over peacefully and intelligently. Whatever your feelings about the Bush presidency, I am happy about this.
I read Psalm 15 today and it seems to say everything I am trying to say about how we should conduct ourselves in the next few years.

Who shall rest upon thy Holy Hill?
Even he that leadeth an uncorrupt life
and doeth the thing which is right,
and speaketh the truth from his heart.

He that hath used no deceit in his tongue,
nor done evil to his neighbor,
and hath not slandered his neighbor.

He that setteth not by himself,
but is lowly in his own eyes and
maketh much of them that fear the Lord.
He that sweareth unto his neighbor and
disppointeth him not,
though it were to his own hindrance.
He that hath not given his money upon usury,
nor taken reward against the innocent.
Whoso doeth these things shall never fall."

I believe our founding fathers began a worthy experiment at the beginning of our nation: That a free Christian people would become the best civilization the world had ever seen. We must strengthen our faith and worship better. By following Christ better, we can become the people our founders envisioned at the beginning of our nation.

In these interesting times, let us turn toward Christ and away from despair. Let us arm ourselves with the armor of God and swell our ranks with others who need Christ. Let us get excellent at forgiveness and become hard working committed citizens of the nation which is the best hope of the world.

Now is the time for renewal. Let us get going!!!!!!
Much love to all friends everywhere, Joanne
